What's new in FAT32format 1.07:. GPT support, fix for boot sector when using Windows AIK's bootsect.exe, FSCTLALLOWEXTENDEDDASDIODisk formatting is the operation that prepares hard disks or other devices (like USB flash drives or Solid State Disks) for data storage purposes. Usually, this process also creates a file system that organizes the data on the disk surface. Most common Windows file systems are the FAT (File Allocation Table) and the NTFS (New Technology File System). Suitable for older hard disks and operating systemsThe File Allocation Table file system was first introduced as FAT12 back in 1980, soon followed by FAT16 in 1984 and later, by FAT32 in 1996. FAT32's release overcame the 2 GB size limit of FAT16 by increasing the cluster size and setting it to 4 GB. As for operating systems, Windows XP is the last of them to support the FAT32 file system.FAT32format provides a powerful yet easy-to-use command-line utility that helps you format your hard disks in the FAT32 file system.
It also comes with a few cluster size related options that make it possible to format large disks. There is also a GUI version of this program - Formatting up to 1 TB of memoryBy default, FAT32format has no problems formatting partitions as large as 137 GB. In order to perform formatting on more vast partitions, you may use the '-cN' parameter and set the number of sectors one cluster holds. It starts with 1 and goes all the way up to 128 sectors per cluster, thus being able to format a maximum size of 1 TB.
Working slow with large disksWhile unleashing great potential of the FAT32 file system, the side effects are a bit extreme. Increasing the number of sectors per cluster results in prolonged disk checking due to extensive FAT reads done by the 'chkdsk' utility. To end withAll in all, FAT32format is all about disk formatting and setting of the cluster size. It keeps it simple and its one and only goal is preparing your disk to receive files while creating the FAT32 file system to manage oncoming data. It is not intended for anything else and if you're not bothered by the 4 GB file size limitation, this is the right tool to format drives of all sizes.
Contents. What is the MBRThe MBR (stands for “Master boot record”) is a boot sector (a region of your hard disk) that holds information about the partitions of your hard drive and acts as a loader for the operating system you’re running. The Master boot record is created when you first install Windows, on the first partition you create. It’s the first 512 bytes of your hard disk.If the MBR is damaged, you won’t be able to boot into Windows.
All Windows versions – Windows XP, Vista, 7 or 8 – use MBR and, if damaged you won’t be able to boot.It can be damaged by certain viruses that target the MBR to replace it with their own code or in cases when you dual boot with a Linux distribution (see ). BackupYou can backup the MBR since it’s stored on the hard disk and you restore it later, when needed. You only need one command to backup the MBR: dd if=/dev/sda of=/path-to-save/mbr-backup bs=512 count=1In the above command, /path-to-save/mbr-backup is the path where you want to save mbr-backup.
RestoreImportant: Restoring your Master boot record with the wrong partition table will make your data unreadable and will make it very hard to recover your data later. You can restore the saved Master boot record using this command: dd if=/path-to-get/mbr-backup of=/dev/sda bs=512 count=1In this command, /path-to-get/mbr-backup is the path where you have the mbr-backup stored. Common errorsIf the Master boot record is broken, your computer may show some of the following errors:. Error loading operating system (see our ). The Reboot and Select proper boot device errorOther errors can be shown, depending on many factors, that are caused by a damaged boot record. Hi Mates,A week ago i created a iso image of windows XP sp3 from MDT. I tested it on a virtual machine it's running perfectly. Now i am trying to make a bootable USB from that ISO but obtain no success till now:(. I tried it by rufus it's finishes successfully butwhen i am going to install a system recurrence of reboot is happened.
Any one give me some idea to create a bootable USB of windows XP from custom iso. One more thing to inform i tried wintoflash software as well but getting no success:(.your advise is required for that issue.Regards,Mohsin. Sorry, then I don't really know what you are doing wrong. If it's the same deployment share, it's the same WinPE that you boot from. Does not matter if the offline media contains Win7 or Win XP.
It's WinPE 3.0 (or 4.0 if using ADK 8.0) that you boot from, not the actual Windows SKU.When preparing the USB stick, there is no need in even creating or involving the ISO, just copy the the content of the Content folder to it. MDT generates the ISO from that folder, but you don't need the ISO.Can you please post what MDT version you are using (Help / About Microsoft Deployment Workbench), and also post a File Explorer screenshot of the root of your USB stick./ JohanRegards / Johan Arwidmark Twitter: @jarwidmark Blog: FB: www.facebook.com/deploymentresearch.
Hi Johan,I earlier had perform all the similar steps which you show in the above post. I am able to successfully create the bootable usb of windows 7 32/64 bit but unable to make windows xp bootable usb by performing the similar step. That is the only obstacle whichi found while creating a bootable usb of windows xp. One more thing to clear you that when i use the same iso file on virtual machine i successfully create a VM with that XP iso.Only obstacle is while making it a windows xp bootable usb from that iso.Regards,Mohsin. There should be no difference between the boot methods used by a MDT boot disk with Windows 7 and a MDT boot disk with Windows XP, MDT does not use the boot files from Windows XP, instead it used the boot files from the WAIK and/or ADK. First off, verify that the disk works, by loading Windows 7 boot image on it. Did you create the MDT offline boot image from the same deployment share as Windows 7 or another one?
From the same computer or a different one? Hopefully you have the same version of the ADK/AIK on both shares. Is your XP image greater than 4GB in size?
If so, you should have formatted the drive as NTFS, but it won't work on uEFIThe process to get the image onto a.removable.Flash. USB drive is fairly easy. First of all the partition must be marked as 'active' (see VIK's post above). Secondly, once the drive has been properly formatted, then mount the.iso file using some DVDmounting tool, and copy the.entire. contents (including hidden files) of the.mounted. ISO image to the DVD drive. I like using 7-zip to extract out the files directly.Keith Garner - Principal Consultant owner.

Among many of us i am also using windows XP SP3 on my home computer. I need to Reinstall Windows XP service pack 3, but my CD got misplaced on house shifting. I searched a lot from internet but when i download XP i Encountered with errors. Most of the time server wont completely let me download the copy.
I am now fed up with the searching why these websites owners try to make fool. When they wont give the original copy they should not claim for highspeed download or offical version. Please help me to find offical copy of windows xp service pack 3. If you google 'Windows XP SP3 ISO wayback download' you will come up with some links for an XP SP3 ISO download. Depending on the age of your computer, and if it uses SATA drives- you might need to download the correct drivers and use nLite or a similar program to create a new ISO CD with the drivers you need. I had to use nLite to get my in-the-box XP CD to install on a Panasonic CF-52. Used nLite to create the new ISO on my Win7 machine.
So it's useful for more than just websurfing and processing DNG files. As with anything on the Internet- scan all downloads with a good virus scanner, no matter where you get it. And one of the links that I came across got flagged by Norton 360 after it was burned to the CD.
Virus scanners may think the ISO file is clean, then change their mind once on disk. I have to see if nLite can reconstruct the ISO after the virus-tagged file is eliminated, putting it on an SD card now.Edited by BrianVS, 20 September 2016 - 03:15 PM. Hope it works, i will also clean it up before using. Just in case anyone hits the XP SP3 ISO on archive.org, NORTON 360 did not like 'DPL1412241.7z' in the OEM subdirectory. I used nLite (thankyou, BleepingComputer) to unpack the ISO to an SD card, deleted the file, then used nLite to create a new ISO.
I have an old Dell Inspiron 8000 that is the test target. It's a good thing my wife is also a computer engineer. My home office looks like the Noah's Ark of computers spanning 20 years and the basement, decorated in Early 80s Digital. No CP/m forum here? This is just an experiment- I have several original XP CD's from Microsoft and specific computers.Edited by BrianVS, 20 September 2016 - 06:23 PM. Hi, udem.My post on the XP service packs is just that; the Service Packs.
I will give that one a try! Follow-up, created the ISO CD, scanned it, no THREATS as in the one from the archive.org site.
The OEM directory contains different.7z files. The 'Cleaned up' XP from archive.org that (Norton did not like )XP is installing; I'm going to pull the hard drive, put it on a USB adapter, and scan it with Norton 360 after the install. A search on that filename shows that I can download it from a Chinese website if I ever need it again.Edited by BrianVS, 20 September 2016 - 07:31 PM.
